“Enjoy The Hunt”
As I write this I am sitting in a hay bale blind in the middle of a pasture in Potwin KS. There are beautiful old oak trees about 100 yards in front of me with a bean field that looks like a delicious dinner for our game tonight. It’s obvious the pasture about 40 yards in front of me is where these deer bed down and call it a night. I feel like our chances tonight to harvest a mature buck is promising. With that said, I as I am sitting here with my new friend and camera specialist, Kaleb Lienhard, I realize that hunting is far less about the kill and far more about the little things. I am 33 years old turning 34 in January. Kaleb is a 20 year old college student with a passion for hunting, filming hunts, and editing hunts. I learned a valuable lesson these past three days. Regardless of age, try to learn something from everyone you meet. God created us all to be special in different ways and during this trip, that definitely came to light for me. Great job Kaleb Lienhard and keep being passionate about what you do. Coming to this 4 day hunt was a challenge for me. It was hard for me to leave my wonderful wife (who is due for our third child on Nov 19) my daughter Evie and my son Lucas. I love you and miss you all. It was a challenge for me to leave the office and put the weight on my brother and co-owner of Peoples Insurance, Jason’s shoulders along with one of my best friends and Director of Operations, Tyson Keith. Because of them and the rest of the committed PIA staff, I am allowed to do this so thank you. It was a challenge but challenges are what I love because it allows me to grow. I will grow everyday. Being able to be here spending time with my brother Jarvis Whitinger, acting like kids again is priceless. Thank you Jarvis for being you. And for Brian Smith, don’t ever let anyone tell you to stop chasing your dreams. I know from experience that dreaming is living. I learned today that our guide, Steven Hall with Kansas Farmland Outfitters was a salesman for 17 years before he started his own business. Learn something from everyone and listen to what they say. If I harvest a buck tonight or not, one thing is for sure, I will “Enjoy The Hunt”.
